Bandaragama Central College is an old school with a long history of 113 years and one of the largest mixed school in Sri Lanka. During this long journey Bandaragama Central College has achieved several remarkable achievements.
According to the historical annals the school established with only 4 students in 1900 as "Weedagama Ladies College". In the year of 1922 a village nobleman of Bandaragama D.H.R.W. Kannangara (Thalgaspitiye Ralahami), donated a piece of land (2 Acres) to set up the present school. During that time it was named as "Junior Ladies College, Bandaragama". Mrs.D.B.W. Kannangara, Mrs.D.C.D. Kulathunga, Mrs.W.P. Liyanage, Mrs.T.G.K. Wijemanna served as the principals of the school earlier. They were able to uplift the college as a one of the leading school. The college was functioning as Central College since 1980.
Today the college known as Bandaragama Central College and it is a National School. The present principal Mr. P. R. Premasiri Perera was appointed in 26th of November 2011. As a result of his untiring and dedicated services Bandaragama Central College has got ability to compete with other leading schools in both their educational as well as extra-curricular activities.
The college has now developed rapidly. Today Bandaragama Central College provides Primary and Secondary education for more than 3500 students and is blessed with clever and hardworking academic staff.
Today Bandaragama Central College has made many triumphs in the field of education. They were able to capture a unique place among the leading colleges in western province for their O/L results in 2012. The achievement in the grade 5 scholarship has increased since 2009. The results of Advanced Level have also been remarkable with 68.14% in the Commerce section and 47.14% in the Arts section. Annually a reasonable amount of students enter state universities through this highly competitive G.C.E (A/L) examination.
Extra and co-curricular activities play a major role in Bandaragama Central College. Students sharpen their potentials by participating various co-curricular activities without limits. The aesthetic unit is very active in the school and has secured several victories at zonal, provincial and national levels.
The Students of Bandaragama Central College are well good in sports too. They bagged championship at the "Inter School Zonal Sports Competition" and have participated in national competitions as well. "Kabadi" is the main sport of the college which has given an identity to the college. Bandaragama Central College have a strong Kabadi teams under various age groups. Apart from Kabadi most of the students brings excellent in games such as Athletics, Karathe, Cricket, NetBall .
Students of the Bandaragama Central College participate in all Sinhala, Tamil, English Language competitions at zonal and district levels. In order to improove the oratory skills and general knowledge of students, they have formed several societies and clubs. Annually they organize Prith Ceremony, Science Day, Commerce Day, Language Days, Vesak and Poson zones and etc.
Presently the academic staff, the school management committee together with the Deputy Principals work hard and conscientiously under the guidance and direction of Principal Mr. P.R. Premasiri Perera.
Ever since establishment of Bandaragama Central College in 1900 to the present, Bandaragama Central College has produced countless number of valuable men and women. Such as Doctors, Enginieers, Accountants, Teachers and various other personalities.
With the mission of "gifting the world men and women with a balanced personality, " mother Bandaragama Central college will continue her journey.........
